I
love this book because Joy Bauer
offers practical tips to lose weight and eat healthy. The tips described in the
Joy Fit Club are as simple as
cutting calories on a daily basis to speed up weight loss, exercising daily and
finding a good support system. This is nothing new, however, Joy makes it seem
so simple and fun.
Joy
gives examples of people who have tried her program, listing their weight
before and after, user strategies, goals and advice for each user from Joy. The
one thing that I did not see readily available was the amount of time it took
these subjects to lose the amount of weight they did.
In
going through the various case studies, I thought it was beneficial to show
each person’s eating habits prior to the program and after the program, as well
as items kept in each person’s pantry items. I think this is crucial in not
only losing weight, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
In
addition to case studies, tasty, easy to prepare recipes are a welcomed addition
to the book in the form of a 3-week meal plan (breakfast, lunch, dinner and
snacks.) The recipes include Curried Chicken Salad with Green Peas and Whole
Wheat Pumpkin Pancakes. Bonus recipes from Joy’s kitchen include Lemon-Ginger Beef
and Broccoli Stir-Fry, Mini Meat Loaves and Chipotle Chicken Tortilla Soup
complete with nutrition information and serving sizes.
This
is definitely one of my “Kitchen” books—one of those books that I keep in my kitchen
and use on a regular basis.
