Contracts: The Essential Business Desk Reference by Attorney Richard Stim is published by Nolo, a leader in legal resources. This book is an easy to use reference tool to help business owners compile, understand and enforce contracts.

It’s glossary of terms makes even the most complicated legal terms and jargon easier to understand. The book backs up contract samples with examples in which a user may use a certain contract and the law behind those contracts.

The reader will find sample contracts from Bills of Sales to Breach of Contract notices; from construction agreements to royalty payments.

Each section is tabbed and listed in alphabetical order making it easy to quick reference a particular section without having to search the entire book.

I recommend that any business, especially small businesses, purchase this valuable business tool to add to their business resources. I believe it will help businesses run more smoothly and avoid confusion that is often associated with contracts and legalities.

SUNDAY CHRISTIANS is a contemporary collaboration that begins with a promising prologue that peaks the reader’s interest in following the story’s development.  Given the novel’s title, the reader expects a tantalizing tale with deep and dark secrets.

The author’s first novel shows promise and JODAEA’S style of writing progresses quite well throughout the story. She portrays the main character, Xavier Wilson, as positive throughout the novel, but more background on what makes Xavier react as he does would enhance the reality of the character.  The other characters are presented as expected, based on the information provided for each.

The title, SUNDAY CHRISTIANS gives the perception that the novel is based primarily in the church arena, but JODAEA has used more of a secular storyline with the church being the anchor.  The novel is a good read and the author shows great promise for any future writing endeavor.

In The Rhythm of Secrets by author Patti Lacy, is the story of Sheila Franklin. Sheila has years of regrets and is eventually reunited with a son she had to give up long ago; a bi-racial son. Sheila has shielded her current life and her husband, from the secrets of her past, but they come home to roost when her son, tracks her down. It is then that Sheila slowly begins to reveal the secrets from her former complicated and controversial life.

This is Literary Wonders! first review of a title from Patti Lacy. I have to say that although we review a variety of genres, historical fiction has not been one that I particularly enjoy. However, after reading The Rhythm of Secrets, I look forward to reading, “What the Bayou Saw: A Novel” and “An Irish Woman’s Tale”, also by Patti Lacy. I have fallen in love with Patti’s writing style, which challenges the reader to take in and savor every word.

About the Book

Sheila Franklin has lived three separate lives. Now a conservative pastor’s wife in Chicago, she is skilled at hiding secrets—a talent birthed during childhood romps through the music-filled streets of New Orleans. But when the son she bore at the age of eighteen comes back looking for answers and desperate for help, her greatest secret—and greatest regret—is revealed.

Eager to right past wrongs, Sheila’s heart floods with memories of lyrical jazz music and a worn-out Bible. But when her husband learns of her shady history, Sheila is suddenly faced with an impossible decision: embrace the dream—and son—she abandoned against her will or give in to the demands of her safe but stifled life. As she struggles to reclaim both her son and her identity, Sheila soon realizes that God’s grace spans both seas and secrets and that He is all she really needs. With dynamic writing that makes the reader feel the heartache of a teenage mother, struggle with the disillusionment of an abandoned boy, and revel in the idea of grace despite flaws, rising star Patti Lacy takes her fans on a journey they won’t want to end—and won’t soon forget.

REVIEW: Scattered Lies II by Madison

Date:                        1/10/11
Title:                        Scattered Lies II
Author:                     Madison
ISBN 10:                    0982526016
ISBN 13:                    978-0-9825260-1-9
Pages:                       393

Rating:                         3.5 Stars

Scattered Lies II is the follow up to Madison’s Scattered Lies (2009).  In Scattered Lies II, the key players are Denise Taylor, Tony Flowers, Gabrielle Brightman, Morgan Marciano and Christina Carrington.

Denise is facing charges, when she is pulled over for having a gun in her car that doesn’t belong to her. She realizes that she has been set up and sets out to find out who and why. Denise soon finds out that her haunts have come back to pay homage as she finds herself repeating history.

Tony Flowers isn’t the best looking man in the music business, but he has money and power and women galore. Although he is only with Christina for publicity reasons, his heart and soul belongs to Morgan Marciano, the fifteen-year-old nieces. Even though Tony does not love Christina, he plans sweet revenge when he finds that she is secretly seeing one of his “boys”.

Gabrielle is a successful attorney on a mission to find out who framed her husband and sent him to prison for twenty-five to life. Gabrielle soon finds out that no one can be trusted, especially those called friend.

Morgan is fifteen-years-old and has a bright future ahead of her. She has been selected for the Harvard Summer program and is a great dancer. Her future becomes bleak as she is repeatedly pursued by Tony, who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Christina is a hot new singer who has it all; beauty brains and power. She loves Tony but doesn’t understand why she allows him to treat her like a groupie. Christina falls in love with one of Tony’s friends and employee and finds out that there are some lines that one must never cross.

In this book of intrigued, mystery and whodunit, Secret Lies II has the making for a 5 novel with professional editing. At some point in the book you forget who is talking as the names changed, surely by accident. However, this is a very good book that is easy to read. After reading the book, and not satisfied that everyone got what they deserved in the end, it leaves me asking Madison, is there a Scattered Lies III on the horizon. If not, please consider it!

I rated Madison’s Scattered Lies II a 3.5, but with editing it could easily be a 4.5 or a 5. I would recommend this title to anyone who likes urban fiction or a good whodunit mystery. A former Literary Wonders! reviewer reviewed the first Scattered Lies, but after reading Scattered Lies II, I am wanting to read the first one myself.

Delilah - When Love Deceives Tour with Author Shelia M. Goss

5 Questions with Author Shelia M Goss
Shelia Goss has stopped here on my blog for her Delilah When Love Deceives tour. She's celebrating the release of her tenth novel. Delilah is her first Christian fiction novel and is in stores now.
Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
Inspiration comes from life. I can be dreaming, on the phone, watching TV, at the store...etc. Ideas will pop into my head at odd times. I wrote Delilah because I kept hearing people trying to blame others for their transgressions instead of taking responsibilities for their own actions. I decided to take a tragic love story from the Bible and give it a modern day twist.
What is Delilah about?
Delilah is an entertaining novel with a Christian message that is not preachy but allows the readers to see how our choices can affect our lives. The characters face many temptations but there is room for redemption. I think even if you don't normally read Christian fiction, you will be able to enjoy Delilah.

Are any of your characters based on real people?
The characters in my book are only figments of my imagination. I may take personality traits from a variety of people (whether it be someone I know or a stranger) but for the most part, if a character resembles someone you know, it's strictly coincidental (smile).

What would you like readers to learn from your novels?
Each one of my stories have at least one message. The messages vary. I hope  readers of my books are able to not only be entertained, but think and learn something from the characters.
No one is perfect and we all fall short, but even with our imperfections, God gives us grace and shows us mercy.

What advice would you give aspiring writers?
If you feel that you have a God given talent, then practice your craft and be the best you can be. Despite the rejections you may get, do not give up. Believe in yourself. Take a chance on yourself and do not accept no. Also, it is very important if you want to be a writer to WRITE. Get at least the first draft done and you'll have something to work with.

DELILAH is Shelia Goss' tenth book. It's available in hardcover and paperback.

Essence Bestselling and Dallas Morning News Bestselling author Shelia M. Goss returns with Delilah.  Generalized as Christian Fiction, Delilah does not disappoint.

Reverend Sampson Judges is the pastor of Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Even as a man of the cloth, the story line shows us that even though his mission is to please God, Pastor Judges is tempted and tried like any other men.  However, Samson’s temptation is no ordinary temptation, for his temptation goes by the name of Delilah.

Delilah is very aware and comfortable with her feminine prowess. She is on a mission and her mission is to snag Pastor Judges—despite the fact the good pastor has a fiancé.

Delilah is an easy read and will keep you turning the pages as Samson falls prey to Delilah time and time again. In the midst of all the backsliding and repenting, secrets are revealed exposing holier than thou church goers.

Readers will find characters of Delilah relatable, tacky and downright funny. What readers will not expect is the ending.

Shelia M. Goss has a way with weaving a relatable, easy to read story that draws its readers in and leaves a lasting impression.

Kudos to Ms. Goss on Delilah, another magnificent read!
