About the book
From the author of With Style & Amazing Grace and He’s the Keeper of My Soul, comes Jazz, Java & Jesus. A book of Christian devotions to soothe the weary soul. Along with crossword, word search and word scramble puzzles. As the author has shown us in previous books, Jazz, Java & Jesus reaffirms that you are important to the Lord!

Excerpt:
“Jazz, Java & Jesus: Christian Devotions to Soothe Your Soul”
In my latest book, “Jazz, Java & Jesus”, I compiled the devotions that I was writing for the online Bible study group (while going through my own pains AND encouraging others and myself!) I was so blessed by the testimonies that the online group was sharing after reading the devotions, that I knew that I needed to share the collection with a wider audience. And thank GOD the testimonies keep coming! It’s a wonderful thing to know that you’re doing what GOD has called you to do for the kingdom.

It’s All Working Together for Your Good!
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love
God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
—Romans 8: 28

Romans 8 is such a refreshing chapter in the Bible! Whenever you’re in
doubt about what you mean to the Lord, go straight to Romans 8 and read
the entire chapter!

I had a book signing this past weekend, and a woman who I could clearly
tell was walking with the Lord came to my table; she was all smiles, and
you could see the joy of the Lord on her. However, when she read the titles
(and subtitles) to my books, of which one is Understanding Your Importance
to the Lord, it brought her to tears. And she said to me, “I have got to have
that book! This is just what I need!” As I was signing it for her, the Lord
told me to give her an encouraging word before she left, and she shared
with me that she had a flight back home to the West Coast that same night,
and that she was going to read the book on the airplane, and then she said,
“Because I’ve been going through some stuff!”

Stuff! We all go through some things; and if we can just tell the truth about
it, we all have periods in our lives when it seems as though everything is
going wrong, and we wonder, “Where’s God? Doesn’t He see what I’m
going through? Doesn’t He still care about me?”
I know because I’ve been there!

Whenever life seems to be winning over you, and you’re wondering if
you’ll make it through your situation, run directly to Romans 8! And here’s
why.

The chapter starts off by saying, “There is now no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus!” We can actually stop right there and get our praise
on! But this chapter says so much more. It also tells us that we’re going to
go through some things or, as the sister put it, “stuff.” Verse 18 says, “For
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

My sister is a certified gemologist. And she tells me of the “refining” or, shall
we say, the “revealing” process that gold and diamonds have to go through
before they become the objects of so many people’s desires. Gold has to go
through the fire several times, and diamonds have to be dug up from the
earth and cut! Verse 18 tells us that the fire that we go through, the digging
up, and the cutting processes are to reveal the glory that’s in us!

But wait! There’s so much more (as the commercial says)! Verse 29 says that not only did God foreknow you, but
He also predestined you to be conformed to the image of His Son,
and not only are you Predestined,
but you’re also Called!
And not only are you Foreknown by God, Predestined by God,
and Called by God, but He’s also Justified you!
And not only are you Justified by God, but you’re also Glorified
by Him!

And if that weren’t enough!

Verse 31 says if God is with you, then who can be against you?
Verse 32 says that God will freely give you all things!
Verse 33 says that you’re God’s elect!
Jazz, Java & Jesus 49
Verse 34 says that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God, praying for you!
Verse 35 says, what on earth can separate you from the love of Christ?!
Shall tribulation?
Shall distress?
Shall persecution?
Or famine?
Or nakedness?
Or peril?
Or sword?

These all sound like problems or “stuff ” to me!

And it doesn’t stop there! Verse 37 tells us that yet in all these things, you
are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you!
And if that weren’t enough! Paul goes on to say in verses 38 and 39 that he’s
persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything created shall be able to separate you from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Everything is working together for your own good. Uncut diamonds look
like worthless rocks! They have to go through the “revealing” process. If
you’ve ever questioned if God still cares about you, or if He still loves you,
go straight to Romans 8!”

Rating:             3.5 Stars

In Jazz, Java & Jesus, Aleysha R. Proctor has created a motivational study guide, complete with scriptures and opportunities to take notes at the end of each chapter. Ms. Proctor provides her readers with a scripture and then breaks the scripture down into its simplest form. In a lot of cases, she explains the scripture as if she was talking directly with her readers. This is a book that one does not read just once. This title provides encouragement and reference to everyday problems of everyday Christians and non-Christians.
I gave this title a 3.5 stars because I didn’t want to give it a 3, yet I did not want to give it a 4. This book makes a lovely addition to a book collector who has book with a similar message and speak as Jazz, Java & Jesus. Although, many Christian books such as this have come across my desk lately, I will say, in addition to this title, being an easy read, an easy reference tool and well organized, its uniqueness is offset by various faith bases puzzles and answer key.
