Caramel Surprise, a short story by author Ja’Nese Dixon, is a spicy short story. The main character, Sandra, is happy with her coffee shop, Coffee Confessions in Houston, but she’s missing that special someone in her life. By suggestion of her friend and employee, Bruce, and lets him set her up on a blind date. Sandra can’t deny that she’s felt some attraction to Bruce, but she quickly shakes the notion and trust him to set her up.
During a normal busy day, Sandra takes a message for Bruce. Ricardo is in town and wants Bruce to know. Later during the week, Sandra meets Rick at Midnight Confessions, special musical event thrown by Coffee Confession. She is pleasantly surprised to find that the smooth baritone voice of Ricardo is that of Rick. Sandra thinks she could get used to this dating thing again, and get used to Rick.
I enjoyed this story from Ja’Nese Dixon. However, I felt it was a bit incomplete and left me wanting more. With that said, I think Caramel Surprise has the makings of a standalone novel that will be just as good as Black Diamond, a novel by Ms. Dixon. As a matter of fact, I’m going to wait on that full novel. Nice writing Ms. Dixon.
